Jerry Petty Steps Back After Back-to-Back Titles with Kyle Cummins
Petty Performance Racing’s national sprint car team will not continue into 2027.
After Kyle Cummins clinched his second straight USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car Championship in 2026, team owner Jerry Petty announced that Petty Performance Racing’s national sprint car team will not continue into 2027. The move was first reported by DirtVision. Petty described it as “going out on top.”
Cummins and Petty Performance Racing won the 2025 and 2026 USAC National Sprint Car titles together, including 11 wins in 2026 alone in the No. 3p.
Petty isn’t leaving the sport. He continues to sponsor USAC CRA Sprint Cars and Western States Midgets, supports major events including the BC39 and the Corn Belt Clash, stays involved with Central Arizona Raceway, and backs youth development programs.
